ï 2008-Nov-11 - Tamagotchi 'Round The World - An iPod Nano/Classic Game
Apple.com showcases the first Tamagotchi game for the iPod, the Tamagotchi 'Round the World.
Apple Games bring you Tamagotchi 'Round The World
You’ve made your Tamagotchi happy. Now use your Tamagotchi to make entire planets happy. Choose one of four Tamagotchi — Mametchi, Memetchi, Kuchipatchi, or Violetchi — and play through six missions that take you to jungle, desert, and bucktooth planets. Interact with the Gaiatchi — living clouds, plants, geysers, and seedlings — that populate each planet and make them happy. Don’t forget to keep your Tamagotchi satisfied by tickling it, playing games with it, and making sure it eats and poops; unhappy Tamagotchi don’t consistently respond to your commands.
There are nine games you can play with the Gaiatchi and your Tamagotchi:
* Rock, Paper, Scissors: A classic: rock breaks scissors, scissors cut paper, and paper covers rock
* Bubble: A geyser pops out bubbles that your Tamagotchi must eat so it can burp and form new clouds
* Move It: Match the plants’ dance moves
* Beach Ball: Play catch with seedlings
* Dancing: Cut a rug under a plant to summon a cloud that rains on it
* Tag It: Run around and grab as many items as you can before time runs out
* Tickling: Sweep your finger across the click wheel in the proper direction to tickle your Tamagotchi and make it happy
* Memory Match: Another classic: Memorize the symbols your Tamagotchi calls out and repeat them
* Math Puzzle: Answer simple math problems
Available at the iTunes store at this link for $4.99: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewGame?id=295347461&s=143441

In case there are Taiwanese readers here who have watched a show, please let us know more about it by hitting the comments.

ï 2008-Sep-11 - A whole bunch of Global Tamagotchi news
As OsuMesu21 tipped me the other day, there are a lot of new things brewing over there at Bandai Japan. Although I am late in posting these updates, it's better to cover their previews now than not at all.
So first up is the colored screen Tamagotchi. It could be the Tamagotchi Connection V6, or entirely a new Japan-only Tamagotchi. So far, rumors are pointing towards the Japan-only side of things so it may be a case of "Japan always gets the better Tamagotchis." Why the separation again, that I'm not sure.
I guess that we will just have to import this one yet again from Japan.

Next up is the new Tamagotchi game for the Nintendo DS, presumably Tamagotchi Connection Corner Shop 4. Hope this one gets better reviews this time around.
We don't have much details about the game so far, but from its initial designs, it is highly speculated that it will be based off the Tamagotchi movie. I guess we will wait sometime next month to get more details about this one as it is planned to be released in Japan on the 27th of November.

This is quite good considering there are a lot of worthy competitors like Barbie, Transformers and the wildly popular High School Musical.

ï 2008-Aug-7 - Another Review of TCCS 3: Still Not Good

It's been quite some time now since the game was released worldwide. However, it seems that it still does not have enough charm to entice the reviewers in giving the game high marks.
Worthplaying.com posted their review of Tamagotchi Connection Corner Shop 3 on August 4, 2008, practically 2 months after the release date.
According to them, the game has no incentive or objective and is only an adequate, albeit not outstanding, way to keep a very small child occupied.
They gave it a 5.3 out of 10, even lower than IGN's 5.7 out of 10 rating.

ï 2008-Jul-31 - V5 Celebrity edition is out now in North America

Apparently, the mid-year refresh in the Bandai press release for the V5 became true this time, at least, for North America Tama-Lovers.
The Tamagotchi Connection V5: Celebrity Edition is out now in North America. This is the version that is based on the Royal Famitama that was released only in Japan.
As noted before, each comes with a CD specifically made for this refreshed edition. |

ï 2008-Jul-25 - Celebrity Familitchi North American Designs

These are the first six designs of the long-awaited refresh of the Tamagotchi V5. Personally, I like the Popcorn and Film and Hollywood Walk designs in this batch.
Officially called the Celebrity Familitchi, this other version of the V5 features 35 brand new characters including the Paparatchi and the Royal families. There are also four new games and different items. Also so far, the V5.5 comes with a DVD in its package. This DVD is only playable on PCs and is different from the DVD found in the original Tamagotchi V5/Tamagotchi Familitchi.
There have been rumors though that this batch of Tamagotchis would not be released in Europe. If that is true, I just hope that it would not be the same here in the Asia/Oceania region. (update: someone from Bandai UK confirmed that it will be released in the USA and the Asia/Oceania region --- the Celebrity Tamagotchi watch is on!) |

ï 2008-Jul-24 - Is this the North American V5.5?

E-Bay is now scattered with photos of what looks like the North American version of the Royal Famitama (or Tamagotchi V5.5) that was released in Japan.
It looks like a V5, but the shell design as well as the packaging are totally different from any press release, website or information that anyone has about the Tamagotchi V5.
The only misleading part is that V5 logo on the upper right of the packaging. When the V4.5 was released, it specifically indicated that it was indeed a V4.5.
I wonder. If this one pictured above is indeed a Tamagotchi V5.5, it may be a change in Bandai's strategy on how to market this one. After all, the V4.5 was met with bad press as a way of extorting more money out of kids' pockets, even a beta version released under another name. |

ï 2008-Jul-19 - Bandai's Mobile Communicator Smart Berry
|

Bandai's really going all out with these gadgets!
Today, Bandai launched the Mobile Communicator Smart Berry in Japan, a PDA-like type or even Sony Mylo-like gadget aimed for young girls. With its wireless communication capabilities, users can chat with each other, send e-mails and play online games. It has a slide out keyboard as well that mimics a feature commonly found in smart phones, but packaged in a small portable console-like plastic casing.
Why am I covering this? I'm not maintaining a Bandai blog, but a Tamagotchi and virtual pet one.
Yes, it has a virtual pet as well. That's the one on the left featured in the product teaser above. Users can raise their very own virtual pet to which they can exchange with other Smart Berry users, similar to our beloved Tamagotchi Connections.
For more information regarding the Smart Berry, go here: http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20080718/155018/ |
