Tamagotchi Philippines
ï 2008-Oct-22 - Where to Get the new Tamagotchis
As of this writing, the only store that I've seen carrying the Tamagotchi Connection V5.5 and the Tamawalkie are the Planet Toys toy stores around the country.
I've visited Toy Town, Toy Kingdom and Kidz Station today to see if they already carry the new batch of Tamagotchis, but unfortunately, they do not have them yet so far.
Price recap:
Tamagotchi Connection V5.5 --- Php 999.75
Tamagotchi Connection V5.5 plus Lanyard --- Php 1199.75
Tamawalkie --- Php 899.75
Planet Toys, the first toy store to have these new Tamagotchis in their store, just like back then. |

ï 2008-Oct-19 - The Tama V5.5, Tama V5.5 + Lanyard, Tamawalkie Photos!
ï 2008-Oct-18 - Exclusive: 2 NEW Tamagotchis NOW Available in the Philippines!

Yes, you've read that correctly! That's not 1, but 2 NEW Tamagotchis available now in the Philippines. They've finally arrived, and you won't be able to guess what the second one is!
First is the widely-anticipated Version 5.5, the Celebrity Familitchi as known in North America, or the Royal Famitchi as known in Japan.
As seen in E-Bay, the Celebrity Familitchi has been repackaged to the Tamagotchi Connection V5.5 here for the Asia/Oceania region. And yes, we have our own special designs as well.
It comes in two flavors, one with the single V5.5 priced at Php 999.75. The other comes in a slightly bigger packaging as it comes with a V5.5 lanyard priced at Php 1199.75.
And the second one is a surprise! After all of this talk regarding the Tamagotchi Color, many have forgotten about a certain Tamagotchi that was part of the Bandai press release earlier this year.
Yes, this is the refreshed pedometer Tamagotchi. It's no Arukotch, but rather branded as the Tamawalkie! It has a special clip attached to the back of the Tamagotchi. Your Tamagotchi travels around the United States as you walk in real-time.
So far, it comes in three designs from what I've seen. Its design is a bit different as it looks like the normal Tamagotchi egg but with a flying saucer/UFO bottom.
That's it for now. More coverage about these new Tamagotchis in the Philippines soon!

ï 2008-Oct-1 - No V5.5 yet in the Philippines

This, my friends, is what you call wishful thinking.
After hearing rumors about the brand new Tamagotchi V5.5 hitting the Asia/Oceania stores in October,I just had to check whether this new version would actually appear on the first day of October.
Yes, it never happened before as previous versions appeared much later, usually at the end of the month or early next month. As of this writing, the V5.5 or Tamagotchi Celebrity Edition is still not out in the country. The V4s and V5s (singles and with DVD) though are widely available in major toy stores and some minor ones in case you haven't gotten one yet.
The shot above was taken in Toy Kingdom Express in Marikina earlier this afternoon. V4s are still on sale at Php 700.00 while the V5s are still priced at the usual Php 999.75.

ï 2008-Sep-30 - The Search for the V5.5 begins anew
The mission: find and purchase a Tamagotchi V5.5 a.k.a Tamagotchi Celebrity Edition (shown above) in the Philippines hopefully in the next month.
Rumor has it that version 5.5, as it is named in the special packaging above, will be released in the Asia/Oceania region this October.
So Toy store hopping, here we go!

ï 2008-Sep-19 - V5 Celebrity Edition not out in the Philippines

While the other parts of the world are enjoying their updated version of the Tamagotchi V5, unfortunately for us here living in the Philippines, these aren't available yet in our home turf.
If someone would be selling it online for a reasonable price, then I'll purchase it for sure, similar to what I did with my first V5s. That's the reason I got them ahead of most people here in the country.
Similar to every worldwide release of a Tamagotchi, I often scour various toy stores in search of this new edition just to check if they've arrived here. Unfortunately, I came up empty-handed or just ended up playing with Speed Stacks with the Toy Kingdom personnel
I'm not yet giving up hope that it will soon arrive here in our region though. So far, it seems that it has only been released in certain parts of North America, so it isn't a good sign at all.

ï 2008-Aug-11 - V5 Asian Designs second wave?

Didn't like the first wave of designs before? Maybe these new designs will suit your taste as there seems to be a second wave of V5 designs for the Asia/Oceania region similar to what occurred in the North America.
While I was browsing through the piles of V5 in Toy Kingdom, I noticed three designs that were not part of the first wave of Asian/Oceania designs (located here: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g310/binary_pics/V5Taiwanbrochure.jpg).
I apologize for the unclear photographs. I didn't notice that the camera phone's lens were dirty.

There may be more, but I haven't seen them yet. |

ï 2008-Aug-10 - Philippine Tamagotchi Update

While the V5 Celebrity editions are out in North America, we still have loads of V4 and V5s for sale here in the Philippines.
Most V4s are still on sale at Php 700 in most toy stores. If you plan to buy a V4 now, please do not purchase anything above that price. I've seen some stores that are still selling these last year's Tamagotchi generation at the original price of Php 999.75, so beware! Your 300 peso savings means a lot especially during these hard times where the prices of almost everything keep going up.
V5 Tamagotchis (also known as Familitchis) are still at Php 999.75 while the repackaged ones (V5s with the DVD - released in the Philippines, July 20, 2008) are priced at Php 1299.75. No sign of the V5 Celebrity editions though. There have been some rumors that they would only be released in North America, but there are also some that say otherwise. I guess we'll just wait to see which one holds true.
I'm guessing though that it will be released around Christmas, but it's just a prediction.
Tama-watchis and Tama-decoratchi kits are still available at Php 649.75 and Php 299.75 respectively. Still no sign of the Tama-tivity kits though.

ï 2008-Jul-23 - The Tamagotchi V5 Event in the Philippines (Final Part)

There were so many kids that participated in the Tamagotchi V5 event that the stage could barely hold all of them all at once. It did not help that Mametchi was taking up a huge chunk of the stage as well. At this point, I was actually afraid that Mametchi might fall as the kids were lightly shoving at each other just so they can be up front so that their parents can take their photograph.

Here is the winning V4 design last year in the Junior Category. It's a boxing-related design, probably inspired by a game or a Manny Pacquiao fight some time last year. I wasn't able to capture the Senior Category winner though.
That's it! I hope that there will be another one next year to promote the V6.
P.S. You may be wondering what I got this time to remember this event by. If you've been reading this blog before, you may remember that last year, I got a mini-clock coming from a Gashapon. The machine vending it was only seen for a short time here in the country.
Remember that in Part 3, I remarked that Mametchi's head was soft? Well, I was actually up there in the stage as well, because....

Yes, I actually won a special award for having a V5 Tamagotchi with the most Rare Items collected. It was a bit unnerving sharing the limelight with kids half my height, but hey, the lady manning the registration counter convinced me to join especially since the special awards did not have any age limits. I guess they never expected one like me around that area anyways to have a Tamagotchi in the first place.
I had all the rare items in my yellow Tamagotchi V5, so I knew that this will fetch an award. I actually had all of the souvenirs and regular items as well but they decided to give it to another kid (He actually bagged 3 of these gift bags as he had 99,999 gotchi points and all the souvenirs and regular items as well --- certified Tamagotchi addict he is!). I'll be actually doing the same thing as well since I don't want to hog all of the prizes for the kids. One is enough.
So what's inside the gift bag?

Basically a lot of Bandai stuff not found here in the Philippines! I estimate all of these to be around Php 1000 worth of prizes. One thing missing here is another female model figure box (I forgot which anime it came from) as I gave it away. It was a girl plastic figurine wearing a school uniform.
This officially ends my coverage of the Tamagotchi V5 event here in the Philippines. In case you want to go back, here are the links:

ï 2008-Jul-22 - The Tamagotchi V5 Event in the Philippines (Part 3)

There is also a Tamagotchi Fan Art contest. Each walk-in contestant gets a piece of paper with a Tamagotchi scene drawing similar to the ones in coloring books. They now go to the tables set up inside the barricades to color them to their best of their abilities. Notice the "specially-designed" Tamagotchi crayon box.

Of course there were fun games on stage to keep the interest of the kids going prior to revealing the contest winners. This one I believe was the game where each kid had to perform their best dance movements while saying each syllable of the word "Tamagotchi." The audience would then judge which contestant gave the best performance.

This is the registration area for the Tamagotchi V5 Event as well as the Gundam Model Kit 2008 contest running alongside this Tamagotchi. Yes, we have lines!

Here are the V5 Tamagotchi Design Contest winners showcasing their winning designs to the crowd. I believe these are the fifth to tenth place winners that each got their goodie bags. Congratulations to all of them!

And of course, the meet and greet Mametchi delighted the kids even more. It was a bit amusing to see Mametchi struggling to get up the stairs to get to the stage. It was even more amusing to see the kids, who went up stage to pose with Mametchi, poking Mametchi's head over and over again. Mametchi's pretty soft I tell you (Don't ask how I know).
He had very limited movements. Most of the time, he kept on bouncing up and down like an eager child on stage.
The mascot's pretty big if you see it up close. You can use the person in the above photo for reference. |

ï 2008-Jul-21 - The Tamagotchi V5 Event in the Philippines (Part 2)

Now for the firsts --- stuff that appeared in the country for the first time due to this event.
1. Tamagotchi V5 Shelves - For the first time here in the Philippines, we see a Tamagotchi V5 decorated shelf instead of the V4 shelf filled with V5s. It's way better looking than the V4 shelves of last year.

2. V4 Winning Designs - The general public finally got to see the winning designs of last year's V4 design contest, and the actual V4 unit which has the winning design decorated on them. Congratulations to these junior and senior category winners!

3. More V5 decorated shelves - We have a wooden one with the television monitor playing the V5 commercial repeatedly on the left. Taking another look at it, I believe it is actually the V4 case with the number 5 plastered above the 4. I'm not sure if it's true, but it eerily looks like the V4 wooden case.
To the right, we have the portable cardboard V5 shelf which strangely has the discounted V4 on the top shelf. They still wanted to sell the V4s, so probably this is why they had it up there. They had the V5s in the lower shelves though.

4. The Tamagotchi V5 with DVD - Yes, the Philippines finally got the V5 Tamagotchi pack with the DVD! All designs are available with the DVD for the price tag of PHP 1,299.75. Unfortunately, I did not have the money at hand to purchase one right away. Also, having 4 V5s is stopping me from getting this. I want an even number of Tamagotchis for connecting purposes. I may have to give one up as a gift just to have this DVD.
