ï 2007-Nov-15 - V4 & V4.5: Going to School Tutorial

Posted in Tips and Tricks
"How do you play the school game during the teen stage?  I don't understand the blinking gift boxes, and where the skill icon is located.  Is it random?"

It's interesting to note that this is one of the most asked questions in Tamagotchi forums. This is one of the simplest and easiest games to win in the V4 or V4.5, and it adds 3 or 4 points to one specific skill each time until it reaches the maximum limit (I believe it's 30 points).

Here to help me present in this tutorial is a young ura memetchi from V4.5.

Tamagotchi School

For this tutorial, I have created some screens simulating an actual school game.  The screens are done lovingly in MSPaint.  Then, I'll explain each screen step-by-step, detailing what has happened in each one.  I've numbered the screens so you can easily follow my explanation.  This way, you can understand what's happening in the game, and apply this in all your future school games with your tamagotchi.

To summarize the game, here's basically what happens:
1. The teacher hides the icon in the third box
2. There will be four box switches that will happen
3. You pick the box you think has the skill icon (not the poop) inside.

============

To set the stage for this tutorial, imagine that the screen of your tamagotchi is vertically longer so that you can see where the current location of the objects hidden inside the gift boxes.

Screen #1:
This is the screen where the teacher leaves your tamagotchi.  In this case, our young ura memetchi's teacher is Mr. Turtle due to the hidden humor icon.  The teacher always hides the icon in the right box at the start of the game, hence the humor icon (indicated above) is in the third box.  The other two boxes, left and middle, contain the tama poop.

Screen #2:
The middle and right boxes blink.  This means that the contents of the right and middle boxes are switched.

Screen #3:
Since the middle and right box blinked, the humor icon is now hidden in the second (middle) box.

Screen #4:
The left and right boxes blink.  This means that the contents of the left and right boxes are switched.

Screen #5:
Since the left and right box blinked, the humor icon did not move and is still hidden in the second (middle) box.  The left and right boxes only switched tama poops.  This happens often (switching two tama boxes with poops) and is just there to confuse you.

Screen #6:
Now, the left and middle boxes blink.  This means that the contents of the left and middle boxes are switched.

Screen #7:
Since the left and middle box blinked, the humor icon that was inside the middle box is now inside the left box.  The poop that was in the left box is now in the middle box.

Screen #8:
The middle and right boxes blink again.  This means that the contents of the right and middle boxes are switched.

Screen #9:
Another poop-switching!  There is no change in the location of the humor icon since it is in the left box.  The only boxes that blinked this time are the middle and right.

Screen #10:
The young ura memetchi picks the left box.  All three boxes blink at the same time signifying the grand reveal.

Screen #11:
The young ura memetchi picks correctly; the left box contains the humor icon.  She is happy that she receives four skill points in humor, and didn't get hit by poop.

============

To summarize, here are three things that you just need to keep in mind while playing this game:

1. The skill icon is always in the right (third) box at the start of the game.  The left and middle boxes contain tama poop.
2. Two boxes blinking means that their contents have switched with one another.
3. The skill icon may not change its location per box switch.  As seen in the example above, two boxes containing tama poops were switched, hence there was no change in the location of the humor skill icon.

I hope I made everything clear and easy to understand in this tutorial.  Please feel free to use the comments section for any  questions.

ï 2007-Oct-28 - The No-Look V4.5 Climb

Posted in Tips and Tricks
Climb for the V4.5 has got to be one of the easiest games ever made for Tamagotchi.  As stated in my guide to climb , it is divided into three timed parts unlike V4's jump rope that varies speed every time you play.

You can even play synchronized climb with two V4.5 tamagotchis since the speed per part is the same.

I got myself thinking.  How do you make Climb harder?

Then out of curiosity, I wondered if I can win Climb without looking at the screen/blindfolded/eyes closed.  Yes, there aren't a lot of games in the Tamagotchi that can be possibly played without looking at it.  Jump rope can sometimes be played and won blindfolded, but it will still require a lot of luck.  V3's bump can also be done due to its randomness and works well with an overweight tamagotchi.

And I managed to do it after two tries, using my Climb method before with a little variation.  Instead of counting pixels, I counted numbers and said the jump number at the end to help me differentiate the three parts of Climb.

So let me give you the no-look method of winning Climb.

Jumps 1-3: Slow

As soon as you hear the end tone signaling the start of the game, count from 1 to 3 normally, then on the fourth count, jump.  Add one second to wait for your tama to jump and land on the next cloud and start the counts again.  I often say the number of how many jumps I already did at the fourth count just to keep track.

1...2...3...1(jump)! (wait)
1...2...3...2(jump)! (wait)
1...2...3...3(jump)! (wait)

And you've finished part one!

Jumps 4-24: Medium
The pace of the clouds would increase a bit.

One wait second after you've made jump #3, we just vary the count a little by counting up until two only then jumping on the third count.  This will continue up to Jump 24

1...2...4(jump)! (wait)
1...2...5(jump)! (wait)
1...2...6(jump)! (wait)
...
...
...
1...2...24(jump)! (wait)

And you've finished part two!

Jumps 25-30: Fast
The clouds are mostly short and medium of length.  Their movement is insanely fast.  The speed from medium to fast, compared from the shift from slow to medium, is very noticeable.

Just press the jump button from 25-30, with one second of waiting to let the tama jump from one cloud to the other.  It's foolproof.

25(jump)! (wait)
26(jump)! (wait)
27(jump)! (wait)
28(jump)! (wait)
29(jump)! (wait)
30(jump)!

And you've won the game!

I've tried it ten times at the time of this writing to ensure that it will work, and I haven't lost one no-look Climb using this method.

ï 2007-Oct-4 - Climb - The First V4.5 Game

Posted in Tips and Tricks
This is a pretty simple game.  It involves your tamagotchi jumping from one moving cloud to another.  The challenge lies in your timing as the clouds' movement gets faster as you go higher.  Also, the clouds tend to get smaller as you progress up the cloud ladder.  One missed time jump and your tamagotchi falls back down to earth.

Similar to jump rope in V4, it is a single button game, warranting only a single press of the B button (the middle one).  Perhaps, the difference when it comes to button pressing is that jump rope can actually use any of the three buttons, A, B, or C to jump.

Also, jump rope and climb are both timing games.

Compared to jump rope in V4, this V4.5 game is much challenging and exciting in my opinion.  They've slightly upped the difficulty since it factors cloud speed, cloud length and the speed of your tama's jump whileas jump rope only tackles speed.

I'm not sure why a tamagotchi would jump from one cloud to another, going higher and higher up to the skies.  There's nothing up there, or at least, I would like to believe so.  Could it be that it's a way that it will be at least closer to its hometown, the Tamaplanet?

Technique

You can actually divide the game into three levels.

Jumps 1-3: Slow
There are 3 cloud sizes, short, medium and long.

The clouds are long, and they just creep from the sides of the screen.  This challenge should not pose any problems for anyone.  In case for some reason you couldn't pass this level, here is a small tip in order to time your jumps.  Just wait until the tip of the cloud is within one pixel of your tamagotchi's edge, then jump.  It will land on the edge of the cloud 100% of the time.  If you're a bit scared, let 3 pixels pass then jump.

Jumps 4-24: Medium
The pace of the clouds would increase a bit.  The clouds' length will also vary from long to short as you go up.  You can actually still use the technique I mentioned in jumps 1-3.

Jumps 25-30: Fast
The clouds are mostly short and medium of length.  Their movement is insanely fast.  The speed from medium to fast, compared from the shift from slow to medium, is very noticeable.

To solve this challenge, as soon as you see the counter hit 24, press the jump button right away.  Then for the succeeding jumps, as soon as your tamagotchi lands on the cloud after your jump, press the jump button again.  It will safely land on the next cloud without fail.  I've tried the jump game around 40 times already as of this writing, and so far, I've never lost a single game.
